§ 01 THE STORY

The Story

COMPOSITE PORTRAIT

The Injury Risk Score does not wait for pain. It identifies the physiological and training patterns that precede injury by days or weeks. Six risk factors — each independently validated as an injury predictor — combine into a single score that turns yellow when caution is warranted and red when load reduction is required. The IRS has one job: keep you healthy so you can keep training.

This is a composite portrait. The story reflects patterns documented across many athletes. No individual is depicted.

Gabbett (2016) established that the acute-to-chronic workload ratio (ACWR) is the strongest predictor of soft tissue injury in sport — athletes with ACWR above 1.5 are 2–4× more likely to be injured. Soligard et al. (2016) published the

Injury Risk Score: The Early Warning System The IRS is an inverse-scale score — high means danger. It combines ACWR danger zones, HRV suppression, sleep debt, RHR elevation, wellness decline, and training monotony to predict injury before it happens. IOC consensus showing that multivariate load monitoring reduces injury incidence by 30–50%. The IRS implements this consensus in a single, actionable score. “The best ability is availability. The IRS protects it. Every day it scans six risk factors and tells the AI Coach whether to push forward or pull back. The athletes who listen to it stay healthy. The ones who ignore it get hurt.” — Noah Wickliffe, M.S., Flowbase Score Series 6 Risk factors monitored 2–4× Injury risk when 30–50% Injury reduction from monitoring

§ 03 HOW THE AI COACH USES THIS SCORE

How the AI Coach Uses This Score

THE STRATEGIC ADVANTAGE

The IRS is the guardrail between ambitious training and injury. The AI Coach enforces it because athletes will not enforce it on themselves — and coaches cannot always see it.

The AI Coach treats the IRS as a hard gate. When IRS crosses into the yellow zone, the AI reduces training volume. When it crosses into red, the AI prescribes recovery regardless of the plan. This is not optional — it is the system’s most important protective mechanism. The AI also identifies which specific risk factor is driving the elevation, so the intervention is targeted.
