SportsFlow · Coming to Pro

Seven views of the athlete.

SportsFlow is the research-based assessment layer inside Flowbase: seven assessments covering wellbeing, readiness, flow, connection, meaning, setbacks and the coach’s own state. On their own, single readings say little. Read together, they describe a state.

The seven assessments

What each one is for.

Each assessment answers one question. Tap a name to jump to it.

01

Wellbeing

How you're holding up

Shows how you're coping with training and life, and where to put your attention this week.

What it measures

  • A 45-second morning check-in
  • Steadiness, presence and attunement
  • Self-kindness and gratitude
  • Two optional wellbeing screens, used only by clubs with a named wellbeing lead
Who takes it
Athletes
When
Daily check-in; longer assessments every few weeks, never right before a session
Instruments
10

Scores stay private until you choose to share them.

02

Readiness

Ready to train today?

Turns your wearable data and check-in into one call against your own baseline: Ready, Hold or Back off, plus how you’re tolerating load across 12 weeks.

What it measures

  • Heart rate variability and resting heart rate
  • Sleep and recovery
  • Body signals from your wearable
  • All compared with your own recent baseline
Who takes it
Athletes, with or without a wearable
When
Every morning
Instruments

Your coach sees the one-word call under club policy, never the readings behind it.

03

Flow

The conditions for your best sessions

Flow can't be ordered, but its conditions can be prepared. Finds which things you control show up before your best sessions.

What it measures

  • Setup: the conditions for flow
  • Focus: control of attention
  • The Zone: a short report after a session
  • Together they make your Flow Readiness

When
Setup and Focus monthly; The Zone after sessions, when prompted

Your Zone reports never go to a coach; coaches see squad averages only.

04

Connection

Belonging and being known

Shows whether you feel you belong, are known and are supported, in your squad and with your coach.

What it measures

  • Belonging and being known
  • Open Hands: generosity toward others
  • The Group, and the bond with your coach
  • The Long Line: connection over time, plus a daily check
Who takes it
Athletes
When
A daily check, with longer assessments each block
Instruments

Scored from your answers only. Your coach never sees how you rate your bond with them, and no one rates a teammate.

05

Meaning

Why it's worth doing

The slowest-moving layer: your reasons for training. It explains the others, because low connection and low meaning are different problems with different fixes.

What it measures

  • Motivation: autonomy, competence and belonging
  • Harmonious and obsessive passion
  • Athletic identity
  • Sense of purpose, plus a weekly “why”

When
Every few months, with a short weekly check

Shared only if you choose.

06

The Setback

When you're injured or out

Keeps support going when training stops, the moment most measurement goes quiet.

What it measures

  • Fear of re-injury
  • Identity disruption
  • Acceptance
  • Readiness to return
Who takes it

While you're out, and on the way back

The most sensitive readings never go to a coach.

07

The Coach

The coach's own state

Coaches shape every other reading. This looks after them, and shows the athlete relationship from the coach’s side.

What it measures

  • Coach wellbeing and burnout risk
  • Coaching confidence
  • Autonomy-supportive and controlling style
  • The bond with athletes, from the coach’s side

Why it's part of Flowbase

The numbers need context.

An erg score tells you what happened. SportsFlow helps explain why: sleep, stress, belonging, motivation, a setback. Inside Flowbase, those views sit next to the results they explain, and FlowCoach can use the ones you choose to share.

Private by default

You choose what your coach, squad and club see.

Never used for selection

Your answers are never used to pick crews or seat race.

Coming to Pro

SportsFlow arrives in Flowbase Pro. It isn't part of Pro today.

Reading them together

Seven states, one reading.

The Battery reads all seven together. High Flow with low Connection means something different from high Flow with low Meaning, and needs a different response. That combined reading is what FlowCoach uses to suggest where to put your attention.

The Battery

The rules for reading the seven states side by side. No extra questions.

Regulation view

How you settle after pressure, drawn from answers you've already given. It adds no score.

Love view

Care and connection across four assessments, with no new measurement.

Any sport

Questions are written for every sport, with rowing wording on Flowbase.

How your answers are treated

You choose what's shared

Scores are private by default. You decide what your coach, squad and club can see, and you can take it back.

Never used for selection

Assessment results are never used to pick crews or seat race.

No “request access” button

Coaches can't ask for more from inside the app. A withheld reading shows as not shared, never as zero.

Juniors

A parent or guardian approves every athlete under 18. Clubs with juniors name a wellbeing lead.

Not a diagnosis

SportsFlow supports training and wellbeing. It isn't medical care; if something worries you, talk to a professional.

Powers FlowCoach

FlowCoach reads what you've chosen to share with it, and says so when something isn't shared.

See yourself more clearly.
