§ 01 THE STORY

The Story

COMPOSITE PORTRAIT

The EmPath score goes deeper than emotional intelligence. It maps the entire pathway that an emotion travels through your system — from the moment you perceive it to the moment it influences your behavior. Six dimensions trace this pathway: Emotional Perception (can you detect it?), Emotional Processing (can you understand it?), Emotional Regulation (can you manage it?), Emotional Expression (can you communicate it?), Emotional Connection (can you share it?), and Contextual Modulation (can you adjust it to fit the situation?). Most emotional assessments stop at detection and regulation. The EmPath traces the full circuit — revealing where in the emotional pathway each athlete’s capacity breaks down. Two athletes with identical EQ scores may have completely different EmPath profiles, because their pathway bottlenecks are in different places.

This is a composite portrait. The story reflects patterns documented across many athletes. No individual is depicted.

EmPath: Your Emotional Pathway to Performance EmPath maps the six dimensions of your emotional pathway — from raw perception through processing, regulation, expression, connection, and contextual modulation. It is the most comprehensive emotional map in the SportsFlow system. Noah Wickliffe, M.S. · Founder, MyoSport Inc. · 8 min read

What the Research Tells Us Gross (2015) proposed the Process Model of Emotion Regulation, showing that emotional outcomes depend on a sequential chain of processes: situation selection, situation modification, attentional deployment, cognitive change, and response modulation. The EmPath operationalizes this model as an assessment, measuring capacity at each stage of the chain. Deficits at early stages (perception, processing) produce different performance outcomes than deficits at later stages (expression, modulation) — and require different interventions. For youth development, the EmPath is particularly valuable because adolescents are building this pathway in real time. Casey et al. (2010) showed that the prefrontal circuits governing emotional processing and regulation mature through the mid-twenties, meaning targeted training during adolescence directly shapes the architecture that will serve the athlete for life. “Two athletes with the same EQ score can have completely different emotional bottlenecks. The EmPath finds yours — and the AI Coach targets it.” — Noah Wickliffe, M.S., Flowbase Assessment Series 6 Emotional pathway dimensions 32 items mapping the full circuit Youth Pathway still developing through 25

§ 03 HOW THE AI COACH USES THIS SCORE

How the AI Coach Uses This Score

THE STRATEGIC ADVANTAGE

The EmPath finds the weakest link in your emotional chain and the AI Coach strengthens it. Because the whole pathway is only as strong as its narrowest bottleneck.

The AI Coach uses your EmPath profile to identify where in the emotional pathway your performance breaks down. An athlete who perceives emotions accurately but cannot regulate them needs different training than an athlete who regulates well but cannot detect crew emotional states. The AI prescribes domain-specific exercises that target the weakest link in your emotional chain. The EmPath finds the weakest link in your emotional chain and the AI Coach strengthens it. Because the whole pathway is only as strong as its narrowest bottleneck. Know Yourself. Row Better.
