§ 01 THE STORY

The Story

COMPOSITE PORTRAIT

He knows he should feel the blade load. He cannot. He knows his shoulders are tight. He cannot relax them. His coach asks him where he feels the drive. He does not know. He has spent years training his body and almost no time learning to listen to it. The body speaks. He has not learned its language.

This is a composite portrait. The story reflects patterns documented across many athletes. No individual is depicted.

§ 02 WHAT THE RESEARCH TELLS US

What the Research Tells Us

"Your body has been talking to you for your entire athletic career. Somatic intelligence is learning to listen — and trusting what it says."

— Noah Wickliffe, Flowbase Performance Series

Craig (2009) described interoception — the sense of the internal state of the body — as a fundamental component of self-awareness and emotional regulation. Athletes with high interoceptive accuracy (the ability to detect heartbeat, muscle tension, breathing rate) show superior decision-making under pressure, better pacing in endurance events, and earlier recognition of fatigue and injury signals. Mehling et al. (2012) developed the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA) and showed that body awareness is not a single trait but a multidimensional capacity including noticing, not-distracting, not-worrying, attention regulation, emotional awareness, self-regulation, body listening, and trusting. Athletes can be trained to improve each dimension through structured practices including body scanning, progressive muscle relaxation, and movement meditation. § 03 HOW THE FLOWBASE AI COACH HELPS

How the Flowbase AI Coach Helps

THE STRATEGIC ADVANTAGE

SportsFlow trains the skill nobody else coaches — the ability to hear what your body is telling you, and act on it before it screams. Develop Body Awareness

SportsFlow includes guided body awareness protocols within the EPAB assessment framework — measuring your baseline interoceptive accuracy and prescribing progressive somatic training exercises. The AI Coach tracks how body awareness development correlates with technique improvement and injury prevention. SportsFlow trains the skill nobody else coaches — the ability to hear what your body is telling you, and act on it before it screams.
